Three-day Heritage bus tour, accommodation, evening meals and admission to a range of sites

Groups of eight to twelve people will be transported by bus from Portumna to various historical sites in the region.

Day One; This will involve a visit to the partly restored 19th century Portumna Workhouse where an interpretation of the Great Irish Famine will be provided as part of a guided tour. This will be followed by a visit to the 17th century Portumna Castle, home to the powerful Earls of Clanricarde. A tour of the town of Portumna is also included.

Day Two;The tour will take you to the other ‘Big Houses’ and tower houses in the region as well as important field monuments. A guided tour of Clonmacnoise, Ireland’s ecclesiastical capital with its ancient high crosses, will be provided as well as visits to others such as Clonfert, Lorrha and the Dominican Priory at Portumna.

Day Three; We embark upon a scenic tour of Lough Derg, the largest of the three lakes on the river Shannon, and take the opportunity to visit some of its associated heritage sites. Illustrated presentations will also be available.
