Hi, my name's Dergie and i'm here to help you have a super holiday on Lough Derg, in Ireland's Shannon Region.
I love to go boating on a hire cruiser or sailing. There are many great places on the Lough.
In this section you will find loads of links on where to go and how to get on the water. Keep an eye for my recommendations.
For a family holiday trip with a difference, why not organise your own accommodation and means of travel on one of Europe’s greatest waterways?
The younger folk will be filled with excitement as they set forth on their own cruiser. Watch them try their hand at a spot of fishing or help Mum or Dad to plot the course or drop anchor.
The luxury boats all have the most modern safety features so there’s no need to worry about the welfare of all on board.
But your cruising holiday can also be as lively and full of adventure as you wish. One of the great features of being your own boss on the waterway, is that you can choose where to go and how long it takes to get there.
Stop off at the many delightful harbours around the lake, get to meet the villagers and sample the unique atmosphere. Young and old can sample great activities and fun – anything from playgrounds, cycling and heritage trails to horse riding and kart racing.
There are at least 13 different harbours for you to discover, such as Killaloe, Garrykennedy, Mountshannon, Dromineer, Terryglass, Portumna and Banagher, to name but a few of the more prominent ones.
Decide your own holiday itinerary as you go along… drop anchor for another night at a particular harbour if you and your group can’t drag yourselves away from the fun and activity!
To check out what you can see and do if you stop off at the various harbours, check out Towns, Villages & Harbours – Lough Derg area.
