Clonfert
The historic town of Clonfert is located within easy reach of the River Shannon in Co. Galway. Once a city celebrated for its schools and learning where up to 3,000 students came to study in the 16th century, Clonfert still holds many ecclesiastic attractions.
You will feel a sense of history all around as you wander through the town and view sights such as the old cathedral, believed to be the final resting place of the great navigator, St. Brendan. Nearby is the ruin of the Bishop's Palace.
Keep an eye out for the wonderful 14th century wooden statue of Our Lady of Clonfert in the nearby Catholic Church.
