Welcome to the Northern Part of Lough Derg. I'm Dergie and i'm here to help you have a super holiday on Lough Derg, in Ireland's Shannon Region. In this section, I have listed visitor information for the Northern part of Lough Derg together with ideas, suggestions and recommendations. Keep an eye out for them.
Ballyshrule is a small village in County Galway on the north-western bank of Lough Derg, offering a good base for exploring the waterway and surrounding countryside.
Facilities include an all-weather marina in a sheltered, scenic harbour at Cloondavaun Bay, with private berthing, hydraulic lifting trailer, local maintenance expertise and access to a boat storage shed. To the north is Portumna which is the maoin northern gateway to Lough Derg.
Watch out for a pretty cottage restaurant, The Red Oak Restaurant (see A Taste of the Waterways) in the area which can be accessed via the Boat House – reservations required.
