Introduction To Lough Derg - Map Zone   

The Lough Derg area, and the surrounding region bordering the great River Shannon as it winds its way to and from the lake, offer wonderful possibilities for a rewarding holiday.

Whether your interests lie in activities on the water or on land, in history and heritage or in just unwinding and chilling out, there’s something here to attract and inspire you.

There’s so much to do, see and experience in the whole region however, that we have decided to break up the area into four separate parts, to make it easier for you to check out what you would like to do.

Lough Derg Area by Area

We outline, in this section of the website, the particular features and amenities in the four geographic areas – Lough Derg North, Lough Derg East, Lough Derg South and Lough Derg West.

As you browse through these sections, you will get a brief Introduction to each area, a rundown on the major towns, villages and harbours there, plus some suggestions on Great Activity and What to See and interesting facts of note in ‘Did you Know’.

Of course, at all times, you can check out the detailed information on various possibilities for activity and relaxation in the wider Lough Derg region, which are set out in the main sections of the website. Depending on where you choose to stay in the Lough Derg region on your vacation, you might like to explore what’s on offer in that particular immediate area. But we are sure, too, that you will be tempted to discover the many delights of other parts around the lake so do check out all the areas.
