Hi, my name's Dergie and i'm here to help you have a super holiday on Lough Derg, in Ireland's Shannon Region.
If you feel like exploring the lough on two wheels, then this is the place for you!
In this section, i've set out ideas, suggestions and recommendations for cyclists.
Regards Dergie
This cycle route takes you through varied landscape and many interesting sites in North Tipperary and South Offaly.
You will pass through the slatey highlands, called the Arra Mountains, which form the lower east shore of Lough Derg. You will come close to old slate quarries along the beautiful lake shoreline rising to 120m (394ft) near Portroe in Tipperary.
The most northerly point on the route is Birr, Co. Offaly where, in 1845, the stars were studied, through the biggest telescope in the world, from the gardens of Birr Castle.
Roscrea and the Silvermines; which have given their name to a lovely mountain range, from the southwest part of the route.
