Noted as a traditional Irish music venue, Feakle offers a pleasant holiday base from which to explore the attractions of East Clare and the nearby Lough Derg district.
Each year, the village hosts an International Traditional Music Festival with workshops, lectures, concerts, ceilis, set dancing and open-air events.
You can also catch great music and sample the unique atmosphere of the Irish countryside by dropping into the local pubs where music sessions are held regularly. Restaurant facilities are also available.
Feakle is also famous for being where the poet Brian Merriman taught as a schoolmaster. Merriman wrote “The Midnight Court” in the l8th century, a defence of women’s rights, which was to be banned right up to the latter half of the 20th century.
Feakle was also home to Biddy Early, the wise woman or witch. Biddy Early's cottage has been restored and can be seen by visitors.
