Hi, my name's Dergie and i'm here to help you have a super holiday on Lough Derg, in Ireland's Shannon Region. This section has a listing of all of the wonderful harbours and villages around Lough Derg.
For each village or location you will find information, ideas & recommendations. Keep an eye out for them.
Dromineer located on the eastern shores of Lough Derg is one of the oldest villages located on the Lough. Once known as the 'Port of Ormond' Dromineer is now home to a range of visitor facilities and services including tourism accommodation, pubs and restaurants.
Its harbour maintained by Waterways Ireland and the visitor facilities recently upgraded by North Tipperary County Council is overlooked by the ruins of a tower house with Cantwell and O'Kennedy connections. The harbour is home to the Lough Derg Yacht Club which is the third oldest sailing club in the world, founded in 1837. Each August it holds its annual regatta.
Dromineer caters for swimmers with its recently upgraded (2007) beach facilities, windsufers, sailers and those who like to cruise availing of its modern and safe harbour facilities. There are excellent walks and trails nearby and play facilities together with picnic and bbq areas.
