Hi, my name's Dergie and i'm here to help you have a super holiday on Lough Derg, in Ireland's Shannon Region. This section has a listing of all of the wonderful harbours and villages around Lough Derg.
For each village or location you will find information, ideas & recommendations. Keep an eye out for them.
The village enjoys a picturesque setting on the southern slopes of the Slieve Bernagh mountains with beautiful Doon Lake nearby.
The lake is readily accessible from the road through public picnic and boating places and is an excellent location for fishing.
You can enjoy fine wooded countryside all around, with Doon Forest to the north of the village near the lake being particularly noteworthy for its pleasant walks. The natural oak woodland adjacent to the car park in Violet Hill dates back to 1850. Birch, alder, larch and ash are among other prominent specimens in the area, which was a noted tourist attraction in the 19th century and also the location for a tower house that is now demolished.
Other amenities in the area include the well-equipped Woodfield Equestrian Centre, situated over 4.5 hectares (11 acres) of quiet countryside.
