This is a suggested circular route around the magical lake so you can pick it up at any of the delightful towns or villages along the way or decide to concentrate on a section that is within easy reach of where you are staying.
It starts at the idyllic twin towns of Killaloe/Ballina on the southern tip of the lake and winds its way up the Clare shoreline through attractive villages such Tuamgraney, Scarriff, Mountshannon, Whitegate and Williamstown to reach Portumna in Co. Galway on the northern edge of the lake.
From there, it veers down south again to take in quaint Tipperary villages such as Terryglass, Kilgarvan and Puckane on the way to Nenagh. The last leg of the route returns via Portroe to the starting point of Killaloe/Ballina.
Distances: Killaloe to Tuamgraney 16km (10ml); Tuamgraney to Williamstown 16kms (10ml); Williamstown to Portumna 26kms (16ml); Portumna to Terryglass 11kms (7ml); Terryglass to Nenagh 26kms (16ml); Nenagh to Portroe 10kms (6ml); Portroe to Ballina 12kms (7.5ml). Total round trip: 117kms (72.5ml).
